Tarandowah Golfers Club Cracks
Top-100 Courses in Canada

For Immediate Release
August 30, 2010

AVON, ON – Tarandowah Golfers Club is the first public course in the London-area to be ranked among Canada's Top-100 layouts by SCOREGolf Magazine.

In its first year of being eligible for the national ranking of the country's top private and public golf courses, Tarandowah received rave reviews from SCOREGolf's 102 panellists as it vaulted into the Top-100 in 95th position.

"It's nice to play Tarandowah on a calm day, but it's almost better when the wind is up," says SCORE panellist Jeff Brooke of the Globe and Mail. "Blustery conditions contribute to the old world feel of the links layout at Tarandowah, and they also demand you create shots to keep the ball under the wind and along the ground. That's just fun golf. It's the perfect opposite to today's target golf experience."

"I've had the good fortune of watching Tarandowah transform itself from a farmer's field to a world-class golf course over the past five years. It shouldn't surprise anyone that a golf course this good is in SCOREGolf's Top 100 courses – the only surprise is that it isn't higher up the list," says golf blogger and author Robert Thompson.

"No golf course in this country has a more rare combination of unique attributes than Tarandowah Golfer's Club," says Woodstock resident and SCOREGolf contributor Rick Young. "Most striking to me is the links land authenticity Martin Hawtree incorporated into the final product. Blind folded and dropped there one could easily assume they are somewhere in the East Lothian area of Scotland or Northern Ireland. It's simply that good."

Perhaps even more impressive for the course that opened in 2007 is that Tarandowah now ranks as the most affordable layout in Canada that golfers can play among the Top-100. Incredibly, it is the only course on the list that can be played for less than $50 at peak times seven days a week and that doesn't include twilight or other discounted times.

SCOREGolf magazine says, "Tarandowah is one of the most refreshing designs to land on the Canadian golf landscape in recent memory. A Martin Hawtree original, it is among Canada's best Old World links-inspired courses set in a landlocked location."

"I'm pleased to hear that Tarandowah is now among the top-100 courses in Canada. In my mind it's a terrific layout on a strong piece of land and it's nice to know golfers in Ontario are enjoying it," the English golf course architect said upon hearing the news about his only Canadian layout.

The results were broadcast on TSN last weekend and the magazine hit magazine racks in convenience and drug stores, as well as book sellers like Chapters on Monday.

"We're absolutely thrilled to see Tarandowah among the Top-100 courses," says General Manager Bryan Row. "It was top of mind as a goal for us when we were building this course and developing the business. It has been remarkable to achieve such a high goal that we set for our family business and it is satisfying to see and hear that golfers are enjoying the experience."

Tarandowah won 'Best New Golf Course in Ontario' in 2008 from both OG and Fairways magazines. In 2009 the course was selected the 'Best Value' in the London Area by the London Free Press and 'Best Value in Ontario' by SCOREGolf magazine. Earlier this summer, OG magazine recognized it as the "Best Bang for Your" buck in the province. Prime time green fees range from $42 Monday to Thursday and $48 Friday to Sunday including holidays.

To celebrate being ranked 95th on the ScoreGOLF Top-100, Tarandowah has initiated a 2011 membership drive at some great rates. A base membership of full golfing privileges can be purchased now for just $1,399 with the special bonus of being able to play out the remainder of the 2010 season for free! Tarandowah has also introduced a Half Membership package for golfers who don't play as frequently, but would still like to belong to the Club.
